Being Present

Imagine you're standing on a train platform. The trains on the left-side are your thoughts about the past. The trains on the right, are your thoughts about the future. Everything on the platform is the present moment. Now imagine you can observe and watch it all. You're watching the past and future trains go by, and you get to see the beauty of the present moment unfold right in front of your eyes. Now you have a choice. You get to decide if you want to hop on one of those trains and go for a ride. You can follow that 'train of thought' into the past or to the future. Or you can continue to stand on the platform where it's quiet and calm. Meditation allows you to strengthen this muscle and recognize when your mind wants to go for a ride.
