They say that profound change can be hidden within our daily routines and habits. A few years ago, I read a book called "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg (fascinating read). I learned SO much. Since then I'm constantly thinking of ways to interrupt this "habit loop" he speaks of. Without you having to read the whole book, I'll explain how it works.
Basically, all you have to do is pick a habit and replace it with something else. It isn't very easy to completely remove it from your life, but it can be easier to replace it with something new. There is a lot of science backed on why habits are formed, how they work and why interrupting the loop is the key to creating healthier habits. If you want to know more about the science behind it, I highly recommend reading the book.
For the sake of time (and for fun) try this:
1. Pick one habit you'd like to change (I chose to stop scrolling through social media apps in the morning when I woke up)
2. Choose a different or similar (healthier) habit to replace it (like opening a meditation app)
My example: Instead of opening Instagram or Facebook each morning, I open the "Calm" app instead and meditate. I still get the fix of being on my phone and I feel much better in the end. This was an easy one to break and one I've been sticking with.
Tell me, what habits are you looking to change? If you try to break your habit loop, I'd love to hear how it goes! Comment below with your results :)
